This special joint performance will feature over 30 Okinawa and 50 Hawaii performing artists. National Living Treasure of Japan, Choichi Terukina Sensei, Master of classical Okinawan sanshin in the Afuso style of music, along with top Okinawan Dance Masters, Setsuko Tamagusuku, Hideko Tamagusuku, Yoshiko Tanita, and Mieko Kinjo Senseis, will share their talents in traditional and contemporary music and dance pieces.
Please email me at karakuipress[@]gmail[.]com if you’re interested in purchasing tickets for this concert.
The girls of the group Hanayakara are so cute and talented that they could possibly be thought of as the Okinawan version of the popular J-pop group Morning Musume. Hanayakara will be performing in Hawaii at 2pm on Friday (8/31/07) at the Ala Moana Shopping Center’s Centerstage and at 4:05pm on Saturday (9/1/07) at the Okinawan Festival.
Also performing at the Okinawan Festival will be eisaa groups Ryusei Daiko (Sat. 9/1/07 at 4:50pm) and Naha Daiko (Sat. 9/1/07 at 3pm and Sun. 9/2/07 at 5:10pm).
A very big congratulations to the Ukwanshin Kabudan (out of Hawaii) team of Eric Wada, Norman Kaneshiro and Keith Nakaganeku, for their “Identity ‘Roochoo nu Kwa’ Children of Loo Choo” performance at the Uruma Shimin Geijutsu Gekijou Hibiki Hall on Saturday, June 16, 2007. It’s weird (well, not really that weird) that I found out about it through a podcast out of Okinawa. Isn’t technology great? 😀
Okay, I blogged about this joint (dance and taiko) concert a while back ago at Internet-Okinawa.com and also at the ol’ Karakui.com before I “accidentally” killed it (don’t ask). This’ll be the first for this blog tho’.

My friend who is a member of Cheryl Sensei’s dance troupe said that they’re almost sold-out of tickets so you better get ’em quick! (That includes me too. 😉 )
