HY’s “AM11:00” Becomes a Movie

“AM11:00” Short Film

To be streamed on July 31st (Uchinaa time) is a short film inspired by HY’s hit song “AM11:00” with the band members joining the stream. The film is directed by musician Yamashita Ayumu and stars actor Izumisawa Yuuki and actress Miyagi Karin (who you may recognize from “Eisaa Don Don” and her collaborations with Nanaironote’s YouTube videos). The other song (with the sanshin) that’s featured in the movie’s trailer is HY’s “Street Story“. Unfortunately, the July 31st stream isn’t available for overseas audiences but we’re hoping the archive will be.

Nangoku Gyarus on Next Chao (YouTube)

via Twitter

Yoshimotozaka46 has a YouTube series called Next Chao and they recently featured the comedy/music duo Nangoku Gyarus (they’re so new that there’s no other info on them other than the video). The duo is Higa Ruruka (sanshin) and Minosako Kana (ukulele) from Kyoto and the skit has the both of them naming things that they think are most popular in Okinawa (e.g. “Who is the first person that comes to mind for an actor/actress from Okinawa?”). Be sure to watch it till the end as they do a mash-up of “Nada Sou Sou” and “Shimauta”.

Yuuri (Chunican) Teaser MV for “Umi no Kanata”

Set to be released on the 29th, Yuuri (now going by Hamagawa Yuuri) teased an MV clip of her upcoming digital single “Umi no Kanata”. The MV looks to be amazing and matches the Parsha Club song (one of our favorites) like the both were meant to be. We’re really looking forward to watching the entire video and adding Yuuri’s song to my summer playlist. For now, we’re listening to the original version which is available on Apple Music too!

The song will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, and the iTunes Store. The full MV is scheduled for the 30th.

Tokyo Olympics Google Doodle

via Google & STUDIO4℃

Anyone who uses Google has come across their Google Doodles and to commemorate the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, they’ve made their largest interactive doodle and it’s simply amazing. Created with the help of STUDIO4℃ (“Children of the Sea“) and with music by Qumu, a classic 16-bit JRPG game was created that’s filled with bosses to beat (featuring 7 games from the olympics) and many side quests to explore the Doodle Champion Island. The hero ([c]athlete) of the game is a calico cat (mikeneko) named Lucky and as she explores the island we see that there are a few Uchinaa based characters like the kijimunaa (one of the game’s bosses) and shiisaa. On the Kijimuna boss’s (marathon) land you’ll find gajumaru, other kijimunaa and Luchu inspired houses.

Gajumaru (banyan tree), Adan trees, Kurotsugu (dwarf sugar palm), and we’re going to call the other tree our favorite Yaeyama Kuruchi (ebony)
Luchu inspired houses

It would’ve been interesting if Qumu (the game music composer) incorporated Uchinaa instruments/music into the Kijimuna land’s theme but maybe leaving it out was for the best? Another miss is not choosing karate (its origins is in Luchu) as the sport. It’ll take a while to complete the game so if you’re signed into your Google account it should automatically save your progress.

Check out @ainupride’s Twitter thread for a character based on the Kotan-kor-kamuy and the lack of mentioning that it’s from the Ainu mythology.

66th All-Island Eisa Festival Canceled

It was scheduled to take place on August 28 to 29 so many of us were happy to see the festival back on-track but on July 21 the organizers have decided to cancel it due to the pandemic. It’s sad to see it canceled again but it’s for everyone’s safety as the organizers felt that it would be difficult to take preventative measures.

In the meantime, the film “Eisa Don Don” is still available for VOD on YouTube until August 31.
