Karakui reader, Ray (an eisaa enthusiast), left a comment regarding English subtitling of the films listed here. So, to the best of my knowledge, if a film listed here is English-subtitled, I’ll make a little notation of it too. :) Updates to follow.

  2. The version that’s available on eBay has English subtitles and it’s pretty well-done. :)

  3. You listed some movies I haven’t heard of so I definitely have to check them out one day, yo. There are some others too:
    Beat by Amon Miyamoto (1998)
Marilyn Ni Aitai by Junichi Suzuki (1988) (title in katakana/hiragana of course! I lived in Okinawa when this came out and it made me weep)
Sonatine by Takeshi Kitano (1993) (or in Japanese, sonachine, and I’m used to calling him Beat Takeshi)

If you search imdb.com for movies (and tv shows) filmed in Okinawa, you get this long list.
